Check Your Tires

For those unaware, your tire pressure drops by one pound for every 10 degrees dropped. Any decrease in tire pressure means more loss of traction, which puts you and your family at risk. Be sure to regularly check your tire pressure. Also inspect your tires for signs of wear and tear as deflated tires can cause external damage if driven on for too long. If you can, equip your vehicle with winter tires to reduce the chance of losing control during icy weather.

Prepare A Winter Kit

This is vital since you never know when your vehicle is going to break down, where it’s going to break down, and what the conditions are going to be like. If you’re taking a trip through the mountains and get stuck in a snow storm between two points, then you’re going to need a survival kit to survive. This kit should include blankets, additional cold-weather gear, a portable phone charger, non-perishable snacks, water, jumper cables, flashlight, batteries, and anything else that you can think of to keep you warm, hydrated, and full.

Wash Your Vehicle’s Exterior

Winter ushers in a potent mixture of snow and road salt that is capable of dulling your exterior paint and causing rust. When you do wash your vehicle, focus on the lower half since it is the most impacted by snow and salt. If you have to, bring your vehicle into a car wash since most have a protective coating that comes with the wash. If you’d rather wash your vehicle yourself, you should shoot for about every 10 days or so. It’s best to wash when the temperature is 40 degrees or higher, so the water will not freeze on your vehicle.
