Maserati End V8 Production by the end of 2023 for Electric Power

Sports Car enthusiasts religiously gatekeep the V8 engine. According to these gatekeepers, anything below a V8 is merely a facade, a pitiful attempt for the budget-minded enthusiast to hang out with the big boys. But this sentiment is ultimately false. Just look at the $200,000 + Maserati MC20 supercar that sports a 3.0-liter V6! Around the internet, gatekeepers exclaim, “The end is nigh, smaller engines and electricity will ruin us all.” or “Maserati is abandoning their rich history.”.  But I don’t believe this is true. In fact, the end of the V8 brings me hope. Hybrid and electric vehicles are still extremely new to the industry, and we’re witnessing the birth of a new type of car. We are literally only at the tip of the iceberg. Only time will tell what extreme performance and other innovative technologies lie in the future. Yes, it is sad that the age-old V8 is retiring from Maserati’s lineup. But the world is transitioning, and Maserati seems to be focusing on newer generations of automotive enthusiasts that are more familiar with hybrid/electric power.

The Maserati V8 is currently equipped only in the highest, Trofeo trims for the Levante ($167,000), Ghibli ($122,000), and Quattroporte ($157,000). As a last homage to the iconic V8, Maserati is releasing the V8-powered Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V6 Ultima, to be revealed during the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.

Don’t get me wrong, Maserati V8s are legendary engines, powering the most iconic cars in automotive history. The white-knuckle performance and the grin-inducing exhaust notes are truly modern-day miracles. But alas, times are changing, and more exciting, electrifying, and innovative things are to come!
